Recognized roots of modern double entry bookkeeping extend as far as to year 1494, when Italian mathematic, franciscan munk and colleague of Leonardo da Vinci, Fra Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli published the book, Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni et proportionalita. It was first publication which shed light on double entry bookkeeping, where Pacioli (used also name Luca di Borgo by his name of birth) clearly describe system used by Venetian merchants in the time of Italian renaissance.
